Treetops Escape to Luxury… together

You are invited to leave the real world behind on your next New Zealand getaway. Treat yourself and someone special to a romantic couples’ retreat at one of New Zealand’s most exclusive lodges.

Escape to the serene forest environment of Treetops Lodge and Estate, where you can savour an authentic New Zealand experience in a pristine setting. You’ll be pampered during a stay that is intimate, invigorating and guaranteed to titillate your senses.

Suggested Itinerary:

Day One:

  • Arrive at Treetops Lodge by limousine, helicopter or your own transport. Relax with a bottle of New Zealand Methode Traditionnelle and a fresh fruit platter.
  • Explore the Treetops Estate on foot, either with a guide or by yourselves. Walk to the spectacular Bridal Veil Falls and enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch or sunset meal.
  • Return to the Lodge for pre-dinner drinks, where you can share the stories of the day with the Lodge’s guests in front of an open fireplace.
  • Share an intimate, candlelit dinner for two beside a crackling fire in the library, or mingle with fellow guests in the dining room.
  • Dinner can be followed by a gentle walk to the nearby glow worm grotto.

Treetops’ exquisite menu comprises healthy dishes created by talented chefs using the finest game and local produce. Each dish can be complemented by a selection of top New Zealand wines.

Day Two:

  • Al fresco breakfast or brunch in Treetops’ garden, dine in the Lodge’s conservatory or in the privacy of your suite or villa.
  • After breakfast, you’ll be whisked away by Treetops’ own helicopter for an exclusive flight to White Island, New Zealand’s only active marine volcano. Land on the island for a guided tour tailored to your preferences, followed by a gourmet picnic lunch in a serene spot.
  • Return to the Lodge for a private massage in your room at a time of your choice.

OR

  • Be whisked away by Treetops’ own helicopter to Tarawera Cruises for a spectacular cruise on Lake Tarawera, a picturesque lake nestled at the foot of majestic Mt Tarawera. A sumptuous afternoon tea will be served on board.
  • Fly back to the lodge in the afternoon for a massage treatment in your suite or villa.
  • Following your massage, enjoy a hot spa bath and a romantic gift pack of tea light candles, bath salts and massage oils. Relax and enjoy the serenity.
  • Experience the atmosphere of the lodge’s kitchen and sample a range of wines from Tohu Estate, New Zealand’s first Maori-owned vineyard. while dining at Treetops’ Chef’s table. 

Day Three:

  • Al fresco breakfast in Treetops’ garden, or dine in the Lodge’s conservatory or in the privacy of your suite or villa.
  • Spend some time with Treetops’ resident award winning photographer. He will take a set of quality images of the two of you – a cherished memento of your lodge experience, followed by an exclusive guided photo safari.

OR

  • Meet your exclusive Maori guide for a traditional food and cultural tour of the grounds, including the traditional Maori garden, which our chef has developed using the tools of his ancestors. View crops being grown using traditional gardening techniques, learn ancient Maori legends and stories that explain New Zealand’s past and discover the timeless tradition of food gathering and preparation.
  • A late lunch will comprise indigenous flavours infused with local herbs grown in Treetops’ Maori garden.

Wild Food & Wine - A tastefully wild experience

Visit the exceptional Treetops Lodge and Estate this season and be treated to the ultimate in gourmet food experiences.

Our wild food cooking classes are guaranteed to tantalise your taste buds. You’ll learn to cook sumptuous meals using only the best local produce. We’ll give you the opportunity to match these mouth-watering dishes with some of New Zealand’s finest wines, and take you behind the scenes with the experts who create them.

This package is designed for food lovers who want to learn about wild food and give their palates a treat.

Suggested Itinerary:

Day One:

  • Arrive at Treetops Lodge by limousine, private helicopter or your own transport. You will be met by your host and given an exclusive tour of the lodge.
  • Explore the estate property more extensively on a guided 4WD expedition into the heart of Treetops’ 2500 acres of native bush. Discover magnificent wildlife and unspoiled native bush. We’ll show you our deer, wild pigs and native and introduced game birds, and explain the best ways to prepare and cook each of them.
  • A top local Maori guide will join you in the Great Room for pre-dinner drinks and delicious indigenous canapés.
  • Enjoy a degustation dinner this evening. Degustation involves sampling small portions of our chef's range of signature dishes in one sitting. Comprising several courses, it will be complemented with a matching wine degustation.

Degustation is a French culinary term that means ‘a careful, appreciative tasting of various foods’. It focuses on the gustatory system, the senses, high culinary art and good company. Modern degustation comes from the French kitchens of the early 20th century.

Day Two:

  • Enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the lodge’s conservatory while you appreciate the beauty of the flora and fauna that surrounds the lodge.
  • Meet your Maori guide for a cultural tour of the estate grounds, including the native garden our chef has developed.
  • In the Lodge’s open-plan kitchen, help prepare an indigenous lunch of traditional Maori recipes complemented by local herbs produced on the Estate.
  • In the library before dinner taste some leading wines from Tohu Estate, New Zealand’s first Maori-owned vineyard, while sharing the stories of the day with our guests.
  • Dine at the chef’s table this evening. Experience the atmosphere of the Treetops’ kitchen and sample a range of New Zealand wines.

Day Three:

  • Enjoy a relaxing breakfast in your suite or in the Lodge’s conservatory.
  • Walk to the spectacular Bridal Veil Falls, where you can enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch amid lush native bush.
  • This evening you will experience gourmet wildfood dinner with some stunning wine matches across the courses and finish in front of a roaring fire in the Great Room.

Wild Food Cooking Experience

Eru & The Wild Food Cooking ExperienceThe Half Day Wild Food Cooking Experience begins with a memorable, guided 4WD expedition deep into Treetops’ 2500 acres of native bush to discover the magnificent wildlife population of fish, birds and animals. Unspoiled streams are packed with fat trout and eels, there are herds of deer, wild pigs and both native and introduced game birds; the best way to prepare and cook each of them is explained.

Next is a leisurely one-hour stroll through the bush to collect indigenous herbs and spices and then an afternoon in the Lodge’s open-plan kitchen. There, Treetops’ talented Maori chef, Eru, combines the indigenous ingredients of the forest to create a dazzling variety of unique dishes. You’ll learn how to reproduce the hangi or Maori pit-oven at home.

The Wild Food Cooking School. A totally new experience for couples who like to cook and eat on the Wild Side, only at Treetops Lodge in the heartland of traditional New Zealand.

Hourly Rate Maori Food Trail and Cooking Class - for introductions and shorter cooking lessons

Terms and Conditions:

  • Arrival
    Whilst every effort will be made to ensure your room is ready earlier, our official check-in time is 2pm.  Luggage storage and use of the Lodge facilities will be available should we not be able to immediately accommodate you.
  • Departure
    Departure time from your room is 11am. Guests are welcome to make use of the facilities should a later check-out time be required. Lodge staff will be happy to make these arrangements for you.
  • Transfers / Pickups
    We would be more than happy to organize a private vehicle airport transfer and/or helicopter flights from any New Zealand destinations.  Prices are available on request.
  • Terms & Conditions
    In order to confirm a reservation we require a deposit of 25% of the total stay.
    The deposits can either be made in the form of a bank transfer, bank cheque or credit card details and expiry date. 
    Reservations made within 7 days of arrival will be accepted with credit card and bank transfers.
    Surcharge applicable on December 25th (Christmas Day) and December 31st (New Year’s Eve) of NZ$300.00 per adult plus GST and NZ$150.00 per child plus GST (under 12 years of age) – for the 2010/2011 season.
  • Cancellation
    In the event that we are unable to resell your room, the following cancellation policy applies:
    31 + days prior to arrival - No charge
    8-30 days - 50% of tariff for each night booked
    7 days or less - 100% of tariff for each night booked
  • For reservations between 15 December 2011 and 15 January 2012:
    Cancellations made within 60 days prior to arrival incur a 25% cancellation fee for each night cancelled.  Cancellations made 30 days prior to arrival incur a 100% cancellation fee for each night cancelled.
