Treetops Wild Food & Wine Package
Wild Food & Wine - A tastefully wild experience
Visit the exceptional Treetops Lodge and Estate
this season and be treated to the ultimate in gourmet food experiences.
Our wild food cooking classes are guaranteed to tantalise your taste buds. You’ll learn to cook sumptuous meals using only the best local produce. We’ll give you the opportunity to match these mouth-watering dishes with some of New Zealand’s finest wines, and take you behind the scenes with the experts who create them.
This package is designed for food lovers who want to learn about wild food and give their palates a treat.
Day One:
- Arrive at Treetops Lodge by limousine, private helicopter or your own transport. You will be met by your host and given an exclusive tour of the lodge.
- Explore the estate property more extensively on a guided 4WD expedition into the heart of Treetops’ 2500 acres of native bush. Discover magnificent wildlife and unspoiled native bush. We’ll show you our deer, wild pigs and native and introduced game birds, and explain the best ways to prepare and cook each of them.
- A top local Maori guide will join you in the Great Room for pre-dinner drinks and delicious indigenous canapés.
- Enjoy a degustation dinner this evening. Degustation involves sampling small portions of our chef's range of signature dishes in one sitting. Comprising several courses, it will be complemented with a matching wine degustation.
Degustation is a French culinary term that means ‘a careful, appreciative tasting of various foods’. It focuses on the gustatory system, the senses, high culinary art and good company. Modern degustation comes from the French kitchens of the early 20th century.
Day Two:
- Enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the lodge’s conservatory while you appreciate the beauty of the flora and fauna that surrounds the lodge.
- Meet your Maori guide for a cultural tour of the estate grounds, including the native garden our chef has developed.
- In the Lodge’s open-plan kitchen, help prepare an indigenous lunch of traditional Maori recipes complemented by local herbs produced on the Estate.
- In the library before dinner taste some leading wines from Tohu Estate, New Zealand’s first Maori-owned vineyard, while sharing the stories of the day with our guests.
- Dine at the chef’s table this evening. Experience the atmosphere of the Treetops’ kitchen and sample a range of New Zealand wines.
